The Midrash on Parshat Pinchas warns that the yetzer hara subtly convinces us that success is “our might and wisdom.” The more hatzlocha we experience, the more emuna we must activate to remember the true Source.
The Maggid of Mezritch teaches that the moment we place trust in anything other than Hashem, we weaken our connection to Him and hand over control to that very force. Rav Dessler explains that the purpose of hishtadlut is not to create outcomes, but to reveal Hashem within the mundane.
Chazal describe levels of emuna. The highest sees no difference between miracle and nature — all flows from Hashem. Others still struggle, distinguishing between “natural” and “supernatural.” But wherever we stand, one truth remains: the stronger the emuna, the less frantic the effort.
