As another Shabbat approaches, I find myself thinking about one of the Baal Shem Tov’s most transformative teachings.

He taught that love is not merely an emotion. It is a way of seeing.

When we truly love Hashem, we begin noticing His light everywhere. We become gentler with people because we recognize that every person carries a Divine soul. We become more patient with ourselves because we remember that growth unfolds gradually. We begin greeting life not as a burden, but as an ongoing invitation to deepen our relationship with our Creator.

Perhaps that is why Shabbat feels different.

For one day each week, we stop trying to control the world and simply delight in the One who created it. The candles we light are more than flames. They quietly proclaim that no matter how much darkness exists, even one small light changes the room.

This Shabbat, before you light your candles, whisper one prayer from your heart—not asking Hashem for something, but simply telling Him that you love Him.

Everyone knows that relationships grow through conversation. So does our relationship with Hashem.

May this Shabbat surround your home with peace, awaken your heart to Hashem’s endless love, and help you experience the quiet joy of simply being in His Presence.

Love grows wherever attention is given.
This Shabbat, give your attention to the One who has never stopped loving you.
