“Tzaddik b’emunato yichyeh” — a tzaddik doesn’t merely believe in emuna; he lives from it. It runs through his veins. It sustains him the way oxygen sustains the body. Emuna is not intellectual agreement — it is life-force.
A powerful question to ask ourselves: Does emuna guide my reactions? When something happens, is my first thought, Hashem is in charge?
The Chovot HaLevavot teaches that once we’ve done minimal effort, we must release both outcome and anxiety to Hashem. Effort is an obligation — not a source of power. The decree will not change because of our exertion. Hashem does not require our help to fulfill His will.
So why effort at all? It is a test. A stage upon which our emuna is revealed.
Our struggle is impatience. When things feel urgent or dire, we panic and double our effort instead of deepening our trust. But the real avodah is to stand firm — to wait with calm certainty.
Emuna means knowing: Hashem has never forsaken me, does not forsake me now, and never will.
The yeshua may be hidden. But it is already on its way.
